Shay Gooden
Care Management Director

Shay Gooden relocated to Katy, Texas in 2009 from Bloomington, Indiana. Mrs Gooden’s educational background  began at Indiana University Northwest and continued at University of Phoenix, Tx.

Mrs. Gooden began her experience with adult, adolescent and pediatric mental health in an inpatient mental health facility in the state of Indiana. Mrs. Gooden then moved on to adult daycare where she was a very compassionate care giver for the elderly. Mrs Gooden was also the facilitator of etiquette teachings for young children in her community for 15 plus years. Soon after she relocated to Texas where she continued her passion for pediatric mental health in a private practice for 9 years. Although Mrs. Gooden's education did not focus on mental health or hands on caregiving, this is where her heart led her.

After experiencing her own personal struggle with loss and then her mother being diagnosed with dementia and suffering a stroke, mrs. Gooden began to put her energy into caring for her mother and understanding that her passion would always lead her to caring for others and providing the best care as if everyone is a member of her family.

Mrs. Gooden relocated to the Conroe/Woodlands area in 2020 where she started her private business Kare Keepers. Kare Keepers LLC is a non clinical drop in care service for infants to elders. This would allow Mrs. Gooden to continue her passion in helping others and their loved ones get the best non clinical care while making their family feel secure and allowing them to be able to attend their own appointments or maybe just to run a simple errand. Mrs. Gooden strives to exemplify the best, kind compassionate care to each and every client.

Chaundy Satterwhite

Founder & CEO

GenGapChaundy.png

Chaundy Satterwhite is a Texan Native. She was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her adult educational background begins at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1998. Ms. Satterwhite taught English and Communication for 7 years in Alabama schools and Texas schools and later became an administrator upon her return to Texas.

This is where Ms. Satterwhite truly realized that she wanted to pursue more leadership and entrepreneur skills.  She pursued her Master’s Degree at Auburn University in Alabama, but completed her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership 2006 from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Ms. Satterwhite has worked in elementary, middle and high school settings as a teacher and as an assistant principal. Through her time as an administrator, Ms. Satterwhite learned very quickly that she wanted to not only be an advocate for children, but for the elderly as well. When her mother was diagnosed with dementia, and lost her independency after having three strokes, Ms. Satterwhite and her son had to begin caregiving for her mom.

It was a journey like no other. As she maneuvered through the challenges locating proper healthcare, proper resources through government agencies, and non-profit organizations, Ms. Satterwhite quickly realized that she had to learn a lot on her own if she wanted to properly take care of her mother.

There was no one resource to guide her through the obstacles of taking care of an aging parent.  Her experience led her to want to help others like her.  She wanted to share her wealth of knowledge through her experiences by helping others properly funnel through the chaos of finding the best care for their parents.  This is where GenGap Living derived.

How We Started

GenGapHeartpng.png

GenGap Living was derived from a real life experience that changed my life.  One Sunday morning, while at church, my mother did not walk through our church doors like she faithfully did every Sunday. My aunt and I kept looking for her to arrive and she never showed.  Once church was over, we drove over to her home, and found her in her bed disoriented and demented.  Her face displayed signs of a stroke. As we transitioned her to the hospital, we later found out that she had experienced three strokes.

Over the next few weeks, I went through the normal process of entrusting the experts in the healthcare industry to guide me in the process of how to care for my mother.  I had no clue where to begin or what questions to ask. I felt so helpless.  Being an educator, and having the background in leadership management, I never have felt so helpless.  After weeks of my mother being in the hospital, she was recommended to participate in a rehab program at a local facility. Again, I had no clue what this looked like.  What was it supposed to look like? What happens once she’s discharged from rehab?  All of the unknowns that I had never experienced.  All I knew was that I needed help.  I had to work. I have a child to raise. Who's going to help me through this? What does her insurance cover?  What does Medicare cover?  How do I know if this recommendation is the right choice? Google Review?  Yelp review?  Is this information sufficient enough to find the best care for my mother? Well, as time went on, I learned it was far from enough.

I began to learn very quickly that I was alone in this process.  My mother was no longer able to care for herself independently, and I had to figure it all out. I called everyone and googled EVERYTHING!! As she was discharged from the hospital, we were handed a small booklet that listed a variety of Senior Care resources. Literally?!  She's discharged from the rehab, and again another brochure.  All of this happening while still working full-time, and trying to get my child to and from school, soccer practices, homework, and just basic day to day household obligations.

As months went by, I was so frustrated at how hard it was to maneuver through the many avenues of senior care. It was not a one stop shop!  It took nearly 2 years before I felt I had a handle on my mom’s health, finances, and just her over all well-being.  However, it didn’t end there, her care is an ongoing journey.  Senior care is an ongoing experience.  As they get older, their needs grow and change.

As time went by and I observed many other seniors like my mother, I was amazed at how many seniors have no one to check in on them. No one who will research and follow up on their care.  I was even more amazed at how many working families are still raising their own children (SANDWICH GENERATION) while caring for their parents. It’s an astronomical number and IT'S HARD!!

You probably wonder what makes GenGap Living different than others.  The uniqueness of GenGap is that we are here with you through each phase of senior care.  Aging gracefully is not a "quick fix".  Not only does GenGap want to make sure that your loved one is properly cared for, but that you have follow up and follow through.  We want  you to know the variety of options that you have for your aging parents.  Our parents deserve this and more!
